Cusco endured 23°F and prepares for colder nights
The night of yesterday June 6, 2019 the city of Cusco endured the lowest temperature in the last five years, yesterday a temperature of 23°F was registered; but it was not only in the city of Cusco; the decrease occurred throughout the south of the country; Fortunately, thanks to the very dry conditions of these days, the thermal sensation was not so radical. However, an alert issued by the National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology of Peru (SENAMHI), warns us that the decrease will continue for a few more days. The alert (click here) tells us that the decrease in some areas of the central and southern mountains of Peru will reach temperatures below -0.4°F and will last until Saturday.
The notice that can be read on the official SENMHI website warns the following:
The SENAMHI informs that, from Tuesday 04 to the morning of Saturday, June 8, the night temperature will decrease in localities above 3000 m.s. of the sierra. On June 04 and 05 the decrease in temperatures will be recorded in the southern highlands; and from June 6 will affect the central and northern regions. The lowest values will be presented during the early hours of Friday 07 and Saturday 08 in areas above 4000 m.s. with records below -0.4°F in the southern region and below 17.6°F in the central region. Likewise, during the term of the warning, clear skies are expected, solar radiation increase and wind gusts in the afternoon hours.
