CUSCO | Procession of the Señor de los Temblores [Lord of the Earthquakes] 2019
As every year, on Holy Monday, there was a procession of the Senor de los Temblores [Lord of the Earthquakes], “Taytacha de los Temblores” (in quechua, the language of the inkas), jury master of Cusco. The image of the Lord of the Earthquakes crossed the streets of the historical center of Cusco, from the Cathedral Basilica of Cusco, from where it went through Plateros Street and Siete Cuartones towards the church of Santa Teresa, from where it leaves towards the Plaza San Francisco where he gives the blessing in front of the church of San Francisco; to then cross Calle Marqués to the Menor de la Merced Basilica, to finally return to the Cathedral of Cusco. During this tour it is followed throughout its journey by a human sea that is housed in the Plaza de Armas of Cusco, to observe the end of its journey before the gaze of some 100 thousand spectators only in the Plaza de Armas, and about 300 thousand throughout the tour.
The procession of the Senor de los Temblores (Lord of the Earthquakes) or Taytacha de los Temblores, was declared a Cultural Heritage of the Nation on December 28, 2007; and, currently it is being followed from different parts of the world through social networks. Here we bring you a small gallery of the images that were given on the night of Holy Monday, along with a video of the final part of the route.
